Becoming an expert at redirection with Store Commander
Effectively manage product redirects without leaving your back office
What are the SEO fields redirect_type & id_product_redirected for?
The SEO view in Store Commander's interface includes a couple of fields named redirect_type & id_product_redirected.
Note that these fields are also available for CSV import.
These fields are used to indicate what to do when a visitor is on a product page that is no longer available (disabled).
If redirect_type is not populated or set to 404: the visitor will see a common error page for all errors.
If redirect_type is set to 301 or 302 and the id_product_redirected field is populated: the visitor will be redirected to this new product page.
Difference between 301 and 302:
302 informs search engines that this is a temporary modification ; they will not update their index.
301 is a permanent redirection and the page will no longer be indexed in search engines. Visitors will no longer find this page in Google.
How can I redirect products to a category?
With PrestaShop, you can redirect products to a specific category when they are not active anymore on your shop.
In Sc interface, you'll find these redirection options in the SEO view:

Double click the cell in the Type of redirection column on a product to choose to redirect to a category (temporary or permanent), and then enter the category ID you want the product to redirect to in the following column.
You can of course apply this modification to a selection of products using Sc copy/paste - check this article to know more about this key functionnality.
Can I import SEO redirection fields?
You can apply the SEO redirection options to your products in bulk using the csv import.
Both fields to use are redirect_type and redirect_item.
Options and format for redirect_type fields are as follow:
404: no redirection
301-product: permanent redirection to a product
302-product: temporary redirection to a product
301-category: permanent redirection to a category
302-category: temporary redirection to a category
redirect_id_item will use the id_product or the id_category.
